Used IKEA storage in the US

Used IKEA bookcases, shelves, cabinets and accessories: distinguish complete furniture from components. Check article numbers and the instructions for compatibility before extending existing storage.

What to check in this category

Identify the storage unit and anything sold separately

A KALLAX shelving unit, a KALLAX door insert and a basket for one compartment meet different needs. Likewise, a BESTÅ frame does not necessarily come with doors, shelves and legs. Read the article number and what the offer actually contains before comparing its price with that of a complete piece of furniture.

If you are adding to storage you already own, check the width, depth, height, finish and compatibility in the assembly instructions for the articles concerned. The range name alone does not guarantee compatibility between generations or accessories.

Check the structure before arranging transport

Inspect the edges, back panel, shelves and fixing points: a panel swollen by moisture, a warped shelf or a damaged joint needs assessing before you buy. A general photo rarely lets you judge any of this.

Make sure the fittings you need are identified and available. Assembly and wall anchoring must follow the model's instructions and suit your wall. Do not assume that a missing part will be supplied free of charge, or that a unit can be moved fully assembled without risk.
