Identify the light and the accessories it needs

A pendant lamp may be sold without a bulb, and a listing may cover only a lampshade. Note the article number and what is included: light source, power supply, controls or mounting hardware.

For smart lighting, check what equipment is needed and the compatibility stated by the manufacturer. Do not mistake a discount on an accessory for the price of a system that is ready to use.

Check the condition without improvising repairs

Ask the store to check that it works, and visually inspect the cables, plugs and housings. Electrical damage must never be treated as a mere cosmetic flaw; have the product checked by a qualified person.

For built-in or ceiling-mounted lights, plan the installation and follow the instructions. Your budget should include any missing accessories and, where needed, a qualified installer, not just the listing price.
