Used HEMNES furniture: solid wood you can restore
Aggiornato il 2026-06-17
Solid pine: a real second-hand advantage
Unlike board-based ranges, HEMNES is largely solid pine. That is decisive second-hand: solid wood can be sanded, re-stained and repaired, whereas a damaged veneered board cannot. HEMNES chests, bookcases, beds, TV benches and bathroom units come in several finishes (white, black-brown, grey) that have been stable for a long time.
Restore rather than discard
A tired HEMNES often comes back to life cheaply — that is the whole point of solid wood.
- Scratches and water rings: a light sanding then a fresh coat of stain or oil restores an even look.
- Knobs and handles: easy to swap to modernise the piece.
- Loose joints: a dab of wood glue and a re-tighten usually re-fix a frame.
Specific checkpoints
Solid wood can split: inspect uprights and panels for through cracks (usually cosmetic, but worth negotiating). On bathroom units, watch for water stains and swollen cabinet bottoms. Check that drawers slide and, on glass cabinets, the state of hinges and glass.
What to pay
Solid wood holds value: 30-50% off new is already a good deal for a sound piece, and one that needs re-staining negotiates lower since you do the work. Always compare with the current new price of the exact reference in your region, shown on its page, and set an alert to be notified as soon as a HEMNES frees up.
