Used BESTÅ unit: build TV storage on a budget

BESTÅ: a system, not a single piece
BESTÅ is not a fixed piece but a system of frames you dress with doors, drawer fronts, legs or wall suspension. That modularity is ideal second-hand: you can buy bare frames cheaply and add new doors in the finish you want, or the other way around. Components stay compatible from year to year.
Buy it in pieces
Think in parts rather than a complete unit. A set of second-hand frames plus new doors often costs less than a new set, for an identical result.
- Hinges and soft-closers: check they are present and working; they sell individually but add up fast.
- Push-open opening: test that the mechanism actually releases the door.
- Wall suspension: make sure the mounting rail is included if the unit is meant to hang.
Specific checkpoints
On the frames, check edges and drilled holes (an ovalised hole holds a hinge poorly). On glass doors, check the glass and how it is held. Come with the list of expected components: it is easy to overpay for a set missing soft-closers or legs.
What to pay
Discount bare or incomplete frames heavily (at least -50%) and value a complete set, doors and soft-closers included, more highly. Price any missing parts at new before closing. Each reference's page on this site shows your region's new price and second-life offers, with an alert as soon as a BESTÅ part shows up.
